UV Got To Be Kidding Me!

Summer is here, and you know what that means--SUN! While everyone loves to get some rays, there is a hidden danger you may have not known about. Besides taking the obvious precautions for UV rays, one of the best things I can tell you is this: brush your teeth in the shower. Maybe some of you already do this to save time and water (good on you!), but there is an added benefit.
When you brush your teeth before you wash your face you get rid of the bleach, ashes, and all the bad things that are in toothpaste that will actually activate the UV rays, therefore damaging your skin. When I worked at the spa we had a woods lamp. A woods lamp uses ultraviolet light to test all the sun damage on you skin, and look at other problem areas you can't see in regular light. Clients would swear up and down that they used their sunscreen 50, wore a hat, and protected their skin from the sun. Then they went under the lamp. They had so many brown spots, and they were shocked!
A lot of people (including myself) had a ring around my lips, which indicated that film from my toothpaste wasn't completely washed off, and therefore it was being bleached from the sun! NOT COOL! Below is a picture I found on the net that shows how it works:
The 1st picture is regular light, 2nd is under the lamp (look at all that damage!), and 3rd is great skin.
So next time you want to kiss the sun, do it responsibly!
